Defend the Sunrise exposes the violent truth and human cost of wildlife trafficking.
Â
Set in Zambia, the novel follows a young female ranger who early in her career disrupts a Chinese cartel engaged in poaching and trafficking.
Â
Twenty years later, she is murdered. The investigation by her adult daughter and a colleague uncovers the truth of what happened and lays bare the cost of the illicit wildlife trade.

Based on true events, interviews, and field work with rangers in Zambia and Kenya, the novel is a gripping walk through some of Africa’s most dangerous bush, accompanied by some of the continent’s bravest men and women.

DEFEND THE SUNRISE review

Review!
A Ripping Novel - Throughout sub-Saharan Africa, our shared natural heritage teeters on an edge, existentially threatened by commercial greed. Defend the Sunrise, allows the reader to see, taste and feel the bush and the harsh dangers faced by those on the frontlines of wildlife protection. In a ripping novel, Mackintosh has managed not only to capture their courage and the world where they work, but to leave us inspired.

REBUILD THE MOON review
Great Plot and Fascinating Characters - Just completed the audio version and I absolutely loved it. The story is compelling. The characters are interesting and well-crafted and his descriptions of the African landscape and its people are spot on. I only wish this could become a movie or limited series on a streaming service.

Rebuild the Moon is a man’s search for redemption. Dying in New York, an aged South African confesses to having joined a hunt of San Bushmen in the Kalahari.
Â
To set the world right, ‘to rebuild moon,’ he directs his lawyers to change his will to give his fortune to the clan of the San Bushman boys he hunted some sixty years before. This triggers a legal battle in New York and an investigation by a young lawyer sent to South Africa and Namibia. His job is to determine if there is any truth to the wild story.
Â
What he discovers is much more. Based on true events, the novel takes the reader deep into the Kalahari to an era of racial conflict and persecution, while showing the healing impact of humanity and forgiveness.

rebuKE THE WIND review
Incredible Storyteller -Â This is an incredible book. I was riveted from the very start. Mr. Mackintosh weaves in the beauty of Africa while telling the stories of his characters. I also learned so much about the African bush, its people and the horrors of Boko Haram. I highly recommend this book!

Rebuke the Wind
Rebuke the Wind sweeps characters from the United States, France, the Arab Gulf, and Africa into a whirlwind of sand and violence in the Sahel. Almost as large as the United States, this region of Africa is home to the world’s largest terrorist organization, Boko Haram.
Â
Isa, a young teen from Cameroon, is kidnapped and held in a camp where the Islamists are holding a French hostage. She escapes and rescues the Frenchman, while militaries from Nigeria, France, the U.K., and the United States futilely search for the European.
Â
Against a backdrop of terrorism and corruption, hers is a very African story of courage, faith, and perseverance when hope is all but gone.
